About the Product
Quamtrax's Super C 1000 is a Vitamin C 1000mg per tablet supplement with a triple-source formulation – combining ascorbic acid (high-purity synthetic Vitamin C), rosehip dry extract (Rosa canina), and Acerola (fruit of Malpighia emarginata, the natural source with the highest concentration of Vitamin C in the world) – for a more complete and bioavailable antioxidant profile than pure isolated ascorbic acid. 1 tablet/day. 100 tablets = 100 days of use. Vegan.
Ingredients: Calcium Phosphate + Rosehip dry extract (Rosa canina) + Cellulose + Acerola (fruit) + Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) + Silicon Dioxide + Anti-caking agent.
Benefits
Triple source of Vitamin C: ascorbic acid + rosehip + acerola:
Super C 1000 differs from simple pure ascorbic acid Vitamin C by combining three sources of Vitamin C with complementary bioflavonoid and phytochemical profiles. Ascorbic acid (synthetic) provides most of the 1000mg of Vitamin C with maximum purity and stability. Rosehip extract (Rosa canina, the fruit of the wild rose) is one of the richest natural sources of Vitamin C in European flora, and additionally contains bioflavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol, rutin, hesperidin) which have a synergistic effect with Vitamin C — bioflavonoids inhibit COMT and other enzymes that degrade Vitamin C in tissues, prolonging its biological activity, and have their own antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects independent of Vitamin C. Acerola (Malpighia emarginata, Barbados cherry) is the fruit with the highest natural concentration of Vitamin C of all known fruits (1000 to 4500mg per 100g of fresh fruit — 50 to 100 times more than orange), and additionally contains beta-carotene, vitamin A, thiamine, and riboflavin. The combination of synthetic Vitamin C (stability and dosage) with natural Vitamin C from acerola and rosehips (complementary bioflavonoids and phytochemicals) replicates the approach of "full-spectrum" Vitamin C supplements — where the compounds that accompany Vitamin C in natural foods enhance its absorption and biological activity.
1000mg of Vitamin C: the high-performance dose for athletes:
The 1000mg Vitamin C dose per tablet is the most clinically studied for effects in athletes: reduction of post-exercise immunosuppression (the so-called "open window" immunity – the 3 to 72-hour window after intense exercise where susceptibility to respiratory infections increases), reduction of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), and support for collagen synthesis for tendon and ligament recovery. The meta-analysis by Hemilä & Chalker (2013) documented that in populations subjected to intense physical stress (athletes, military personnel), supplementation with ≥200mg/day of Vitamin C reduced the incidence of colds by 50% — with doses of 1000mg/day producing even more marked effects. As a cofactor of prolyl and lysyl hydroxylases, 1000mg/day ensures complete saturation of these enzymes for the maximum rate of collagen synthesis in tendons, ligaments, and cartilage.
Rosehip (Rosa canina): the bioflavonoids that enhance Vitamin C:
Rosehip (the fruit of Rosa canina – the wild rose of Europe) is one of the richest Vitamin C foods in European flora (400 to 2000mg per 100g of dried fruit) and contains the most relevant bioflavonoids for synergy with Vitamin C. Rosehip bioflavonoids (quercetin, rutin, kaempferol, naringenin) have multiple effects that amplify the action of Vitamin C: they inhibit the oxidation of Vitamin C in tissues (bioflavonoids are more potent antioxidants than Vitamin C itself for some oxidative substrates), they regenerate oxidized Vitamin C (DHAA – dehydroascorbic acid) back to the active reduced form (ascorbic acid), and they improve intestinal absorption of Vitamin C by protecting it from luminal oxidation. Rutin in particular has documented effects on reducing capillary fragility and improving microcirculation – synergistic with Vitamin C's effects on vascular collagen synthesis.
Acerola (Malpighia emarginata): the world's most concentrated natural source of Vitamin C:
Acerola (Barbados cherry, cherry acerola) is globally recognized as the fruit with the highest Vitamin C content of all known natural foods – values ranging from 1000 to 4500mg of Vitamin C per 100g of fresh fruit (depending on ripeness – less ripe fruits have higher Vitamin C concentration). For comparison: oranges have ~50mg/100g and kiwis ~90mg/100g. Acerola Vitamin C is accompanied by natural beta-carotene (pro-vitamin A), vitamin A, B1, B2, and B3, and by anthocyanins and flavonoids (especially if the fruit is from red or purple varieties). The inclusion of acerola in Super C 1000 adds a "full-spectrum" natural Vitamin C fraction that complements pure ascorbic acid, replicating the phytochemical matrix of whole foods rich in Vitamin C.
Calcium phosphate: the excipient with mineral value:
Calcium phosphate is used as a bulking agent (excipient) in the tablet, but unlike inert excipients like cellulose, calcium phosphate provides elemental calcium and phosphorus as co-nutrients – a minor but relevant nutritional addition for athletes with increased calcium needs (for bone health, muscle contraction, and cardiac function).
Immune support, antioxidant, and collagen: the three pillars of Vitamin C:
As extensively described in the Vitamin C section of Marvelous Nutrition, Vitamin C has three main functions of greatest relevance for athletes: immune support (accumulation in leukocytes, support for T-lymphocyte proliferation and NK activity), extracellular antioxidant (protection of LDL from oxidation, neutralization of ROS in plasma), and cofactor for collagen synthesis (prolyl and lysyl hydroxylases – essential for tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and skin). Super C 1000 covers all three pillars with a dose of 1000mg per tablet.
Usage
Recommended dose: Take 1 tablet daily, preferably with breakfast or a meal. For use as support for collagen synthesis in a sports context (tendon and ligament recovery), take 1 hour before training (according to the collagen synthesis window documented by Shaw et al.). 100 tablets = 100 days of use.
