Benefits
Lonza Carnipure™: the global quality standard in L-Carnitine:
Carnipure™ is the registered trademark of Lonza Group (a Swiss life sciences company, a global leader in the production of pharmaceutical-grade active pharmaceutical ingredients and nutritional ingredients) for its high-purity L-Carnitine Tartrate produced by fermentation and precision chemical synthesis. Carnipure™ is the most specified L-Carnitine ingredient in premium supplements and clinical L-Carnitine studies worldwide — when a clinical trial mentions L-Carnitine Tartrate, it is typically Carnipure™ that is being tested. The Carnipure™ specification guarantees: purity >99% L-Carnitine Tartrate (no D-Carnitine contaminants — the inactive and potentially antagonistic form of L-Carnitine); absence of heavy metals; complete batch traceability; and FDA GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) certification and compliance with European regulations. By choosing L-Carnitine Lonza Quality, the user is guaranteed to be consuming the same ingredient that was tested in clinical studies published in scientific literature — not an ingredient of lower quality or purity.
L-Carnitine: the essential cofactor for fatty acid transport into the mitochondria:
As extensively described in the sections on Life Pro Carnitine Carnipure (capsules and liquid) and IGNITE (Marvelous Nutrition), L-Carnitine is the quaternary amino acid essential for the transport of long-chain fatty acids (with 12 to 20 carbons) across the inner mitochondrial membrane for β-oxidation. The physiological process requires activated fatty acids (acyl-CoA) to be transesterified to carnitine by CPT1 (carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1) on the outer mitochondrial membrane, forming acylcarnitine that crosses the inner membrane via the CACT translocase, and is then reconverted to acyl-CoA by CPT2 in the mitochondrial matrix to enter β-oxidation. Without sufficient L-Carnitine, long-chain fatty acids cannot enter the mitochondria and are re-esterified to triglycerides or accumulate as free acyl-CoA (which inhibits pyruvate dehydrogenase, compromising mitochondrial energy metabolism). L-Carnitine supplementation is especially effective in: individuals with low dietary carnitine intake (vegetarians and vegans, who obtain carnitine almost exclusively from endogenous synthesis from lysine + methionine); athletes with a high rate of β-oxidation during aerobic training; and individuals in caloric deficit (where intracellular carnitine stores may be depleted by increased fatty acid mobilization).
L-Carnitine Tartrate Carnipure™: the most studied form for sports use:
The tartrate form of L-Carnitine (L-Carnitine-L-Tartrate, LCLT) is the most widely used form in clinical studies of L-Carnitine in a sports context — especially in studies by Dr. Lyle McDonald's group and the Kraemer & Volek group on muscle recovery and body composition. Tartrate is the carnitine salt with tartaric acid, with excellent stability, efficient intestinal absorption, and no laxative effect (unlike L-Carnitine L-Tartrate + sodium, which can have an osmotic effect). The tartrate form is the basis of Carnipure™ — which guarantees the user the same molecule as the most robust clinical studies. The study by Kraemer et al. (2003), published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, documented that 2g/day of LCLT for 3 weeks reduced post-eccentric exercise muscle damage (serum markers of muscle injury: CK, myoglobin), reduced muscle soreness, and improved functional recovery — establishing L-Carnitine Tartrate as a muscle recovery supplement beyond its role in fat metabolism.
HPMC vegetable capsules: L-Carnitine without animal gelatin:
The technical differentiator of this Quamtrax formulation versus conventional L-Carnitine supplements in gelatin capsules is the use of HPMC vegetable capsules — suitable for vegetarians and vegans, without any animal-derived ingredients. For athletes on a vegetarian or vegan diet who are also most likely to have L-Carnitine deficiency (given that dietary carnitine comes almost exclusively from red meat and dairy), the formulation in vegetable capsules is especially suitable.
Cardiovascular health: the role of L-Carnitine in cardiac function:
In addition to its role in muscle fat metabolism, L-Carnitine is critical for cardiac function — the heart uses fatty acids as a primary energy substrate (~60 to 70% of cardiac ATP is produced by fatty acid β-oxidation), and the transport of these fatty acids into cardiomyocyte mitochondria depends entirely on L-Carnitine. In conditions of cardiac ischemia (insufficient oxygen supply to the myocardium), the accumulation of long-chain acylcarnitines and acyl-CoA is one of the mechanisms of cellular damage — and L-Carnitine supplementation has been studied in the context of ischemic cardioprotection. The meta-analysis by DiNicolantonio et al. (2013), published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings with data from 13 controlled clinical trials and more than 3600 patients, documented that L-Carnitine supplementation after myocardial infarction reduced total mortality by 27% and ventricular arrhythmia by 65% versus control.
Uses
Recommended dose: Take 2 to 4 capsules per day, preferably 30 minutes before breakfast or before training. For use in fat metabolism and sports performance: take 2 capsules before aerobic training or fasted training. For use as muscle recovery support: take 2 capsules after training. For cardiovascular support: distribute the dose throughout the day (morning + evening with meals). 120 capsules = 30 to 60 days of use (at 2 to 4 capsules/day).
