About the Product
HSN's EssentialSeries Melotime™ Chewable Melatonin 1.9 mg is a food supplement in strawberry and caramel cream flavoured chewable tablets, based on biphasic sequential release melatonin (Melotime™ technology patented by Inventia Healthcare Ltd.), enriched with Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin). It combines the convenience of a chewable format (no water needed, ideal for taking in bed or while travelling) with Melotime™ sequential release technology, which mimics the physiological pattern of endogenous melatonin secretion through two release phases: an immediate release fraction to facilitate falling asleep and a prolonged release fraction throughout the night to maintain elevated melatonin levels during the first hours of sleep. Each chewable tablet contains 1.9 mg of pure melatonin, at the maximum concentration allowed by European regulations for food supplements. Sugar-free. Vegan. Gluten-free, GMO-free. Available in 30 and 120 chewable tablets.
Benefits
Melatonin 1.9 mg with Melotime™ biphasic sequential release technology: Melotime™ technology, patented by Inventia Healthcare Ltd., is a controlled release matrix granulation platform that allows melatonin to be incorporated into two fractions with distinct release profiles in a single dosage form. When the tablet is chewed, mechanical disintegration occurs, simultaneously releasing: the immediate release fraction (the unencapsulated soluble component), which is rapidly absorbed through the oral and gastrointestinal mucosa, reaching peak plasma levels in 20 to 30 minutes, and the prolonged release fraction (the encapsulated matrix component), which progressively dissolves over several hours in the gastrointestinal environment, maintaining biologically relevant plasma melatonin levels for a more extended period of the night. This biphasic profile is especially relevant for people who fall asleep easily but wake up in the middle of the night (a sleep disturbance pattern especially common in adults over 40-50 years old, associated with reduced endogenous melatonin production in the second half of the night).
EFSA-approved health claims for melatonin: EFSA has approved two specific health claims for melatonin: melatonin contributes to the reduction of time to fall asleep (with an intake of 1 mg taken close to bedtime) and melatonin helps alleviate the subjective feeling of jet lag (with a minimum intake of 0.5 mg taken close to bedtime on the first day of travel and on subsequent days after arrival at the destination). Each HSN chewable tablet provides 1.9 mg, amply covering both effective doses recognised by EFSA.
Vitamin B12 methylcobalamin: co-factor of endogenous melatonin synthesis: Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin, the active form) is an essential co-factor in the endogenous synthesis pathway of melatonin. Melatonin is synthesised in the body from the amino acid tryptophan, via serotonin (5-HT), by the sequential action of two enzymes: arylalkylamine N-acetyltransferase (AA-NAT) and hydroxyindole-O-methyltransferase (HIOMT). Vitamin B12 is necessary for the proper synthesis of SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine, the body's main methyl group donor), which is the co-factor for the methylation reaction catalysed by HIOMT (which converts N-acetylserotonin to melatonin). In this way, the inclusion of Vitamin B12 in the chewable melatonin formula complements and supports endogenous melatonin production, creating a synergy to support the circadian rhythm that goes beyond simple exogenous melatonin supplementation.
Chewable format: the ideal solution for those who have difficulty taking pills or prefer not to use water at bedtime: The chewable format has specific practical advantages that differentiate it from conventional tablets or capsules: it does not require water to swallow, making it easier to take at bedtime without needing to get up for water; the pleasant strawberry and caramel cream flavour makes taking it a more enjoyable experience; oral disintegration allows a fraction of the melatonin to be absorbed directly through the oral mucosa (sublingual/transmucosal absorption), with an even faster onset of action than conventional gastrointestinal absorption; and it is especially convenient for travel use (plane, hotel), where practicality is critical.
Strawberry and caramel cream flavour, sugar-free: The flavour is achieved with natural flavouring and sweeteners (sucralose and isomalt), with no added sugar. Beetroot red (E162) is a natural colourant. The formulation is vegan, with no animal-derived ingredients.
Safety and absence of dependence or tolerance with continuous use: Like all forms of melatonin, the Melotime™ chewable format does not cause physical dependence, does not induce tolerance, has no residual sedation effect the next morning, and does not negatively interfere with the physiological architecture of sleep (it does not suppress REM sleep or alter the distribution of sleep stages). It can be used daily long-term without the need for withdrawal periods.
Uses
Recommended dose: Chew 1 tablet daily, 30 minutes before bedtime. The tablet should be chewed (not swallowed whole) to activate the biphasic release profile of Melotime™ technology and to allow oral transmucosal absorption of the immediate release fraction.
For jet lag: Chew 1 tablet close to bedtime on the first day of travel and on subsequent days after arrival at the destination, at local bedtime.
Storage: Store in a cool place (below 25°C), dry and dark. Close tightly after use.
