About the Product
Life Pro Nutrition's Whey Dragon Ball Super Limited Edition Vegeta is a limited edition concentrated whey protein, in official partnership with the Dragon Ball Super saga, with a design inspired by Vegeta, the Saiyan warrior symbolizing discipline, self-improvement, and constant demand. Life Pro is the first Spanish company to officially collaborate with Dragon Ball, in one of the most iconic collaborations in the Iberian sports supplementation world. The formula is technically award-winning: it exclusively uses Arla Foods Ingredients (Denmark)'s Lacprodan® SP-8011 instant whey concentrate at 94.3% as its base ingredient, with 73% protein in the raw material, providing 22 to 23g of protein per 30g serving. In addition to the quality of the raw material, it stands out for the inclusion of Tolerase® L (active lactase from DSM/IFF) for lactose hydrolysis and improved digestibility in people with mild lactose intolerance, and the use of sunflower lecithin instead of soy lecithin as an emulsifier (making the product free of soy derivatives). 900g per pack (~30 servings of 30g). Available in unique limited edition flavors. Not vegan.
Benefits
Lacprodan® SP-8011 instant at 94.3%: the premium whey concentrate raw material that defines the quality of this protein:
Lacprodan® SP-8011 instant is a whey protein concentrate (WPC) produced by Arla Foods Ingredients (a Danish cooperative and one of the world's largest suppliers of premium dairy ingredients) with the following technical characteristics: 73% protein concentration in the raw material (one of the highest available in industrial quality WPC), processed by ultrafiltration from fresh milk from Danish cows with certified traceability, with the "instant" designation indicating treatment with lecithin (in this case sunflower lecithin) to ensure instant dissolution and absence of lumps, and with the complete amino acid profile rich in BCAAs characteristic of all whey proteins. The fact that the formula is composed of 94.3% Lacprodan® SP-8011 means that almost the entire product (excluding flavorings, sweetener, and enzyme, which make up the remaining ~5.7%) is this premium raw material, confirming a formula with minimal "fillers" and a maximum proportion of quality protein.
Whey protein: the reference protein for muscle mass gain and maintenance:
Whey protein is obtained as a byproduct of cheese production: during milk coagulation, casein coagulates and precipitates, while whey remains in solution. This whey is then filtered and concentrated by ultrafiltration (for WPC) or microfiltration and/or ion exchange (for WPI) to produce whey protein concentrates and isolates. Whey has unique characteristics that make it the most documented and used protein in sports nutrition: high absorption and digestion speed (reaches peak plasma aminoacidemia 60 to 90 minutes after ingestion, compared to 4 to 6 hours for casein), high biological value amino acid profile (maximum PDCAAS and DIAAS, with all essential amino acids and a particularly rich BCAA profile: ~10 to 12% leucine, 5 to 6% isoleucine, 6 to 7% valine of total protein), high leucine content as the main activator of the mTOR pathway (the central anabolic pathway of muscle protein synthesis), and superior solubility and palatability to most plant proteins. The meta-analysis by Witard et al. (2014) and ISSN reviews confirm that 20 to 40g of high biological value protein (such as whey) after training maximizes muscle protein synthesis (MPS) and lean mass gain when included in a diet with adequate total protein intake (1.6 to 2.2g/kg/day).
Tolerase® L (active lactase, DSM/IFF): the digestive differentiator that expands the reach of this protein:
Tolerase® L is a lactase preparation (beta-galactosidase, EC 3.2.1.23) produced by DSM Nutritional Products (now IFF/dsm-firmenich), specifically developed for addition to supplements and foods to improve lactose digestibility. Lactose is the disaccharide naturally present in whey (even after ultrafiltration, which concentrates the protein, a fraction of lactose remains associated with the protein concentrate), and its digestion requires the intestinal lactase enzyme, which is reduced or absent in people with lactose intolerance (an estimated 65 to 75% of the adult world population has some degree of lactase deficiency). Tolerase® L acts in the pre-digestive hydrolysis of lactose present in the product, breaking it down into glucose and galactose (which are absorbed normally without the need for intestinal lactase), making the protein well tolerated even by people with mild to moderate lactose intolerance. This feature is a significant differentiator compared to conventional whey proteins without lactase, which can cause bloating, flatulence, cramps, or diarrhea in users with lactose intolerance.
Sunflower lecithin instead of soy lecithin: soy derivative-free formula for greater inclusivity:
Most whey proteins on the market use soy lecithin as an emulsifier to ensure instant dissolution (lecithin treatment forms a lipid layer around the protein particles that reduces surface tension and facilitates dissolution in water). Life Pro Whey Dragon Ball Vegeta specifically uses sunflower lecithin instead of soy lecithin, making the product free of any soy derivatives (explicitly declared). This choice is relevant for: people with soy allergy or intolerance; people who prefer to avoid soy for health or lifestyle reasons (e.g., concern about phytoestrogens); and, from a regulatory point of view, it allows the product to be used by people with declared soy allergy (given that soy is one of the 14 mandatory allergens to declare in the EU).
Clean nutritional profile: high protein, low in carbohydrates and fat:
Lacprodan® SP-8011 instant at 73% protein, with 94.3% concentration in the formula, results in a nutritional profile per 30g serving with ~22 to 23g of protein, low carbohydrate content (~3 to 4g/serving, mostly residual lactose after Tolerase® L action) and low fat content (~1.5 to 2g/serving), typical of a high-quality WPC. The sweetener used is sucralose (calorie-free), with no added sugars.
Uses
Recommended dose: Dissolve 30g (1 scoop) in 200 to 250ml of water or milk (lactose-free if necessary). Shake well in a shaker for 15 to 20 seconds. Consume 1 to 2 times/day: ideally after training (to maximize muscle protein synthesis in the post-workout window) and/or at breakfast (to meet morning meal protein requirements). It can also be used in recipes: protein pancakes, protein yogurt, smoothies, muffins. The versatility of Lacprodan® SP-8011's instant dissolution ensures excellent texture in all these applications.
