The 9 complete essential amino acids (EAAs) — the advantage over isolated BCAAs: Conventional BCAAs provide only 3 of the 9 essential amino acids (L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, and L-Valine). While these three are the most relevant for muscle protein synthesis, recent research shows that the presence of the other 6 essential amino acids — L-Lysine, L-Methionine, L-Phenylalanine, L-Threonine, L-Tryptophan, and L-Histidine — significantly enhances the anabolic response, as the body needs all 9 to complete protein synthesis. Supplementation with complete EAAs is therefore superior to supplementation with isolated BCAAs, especially in contexts of fasted training, hypocaloric diets, or high-volume training periods where the risk of muscle catabolism is higher.
